The latest treatment advances in sports medicine are helping all types of athletes become active again after suffering from a sports injury.
Dr. Michael Ciccotti, director of the Sports Medicine Center at Jefferson, talks with South Jersey Magazine about his experience, particularly as head team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies, with treating athletes.
Dr. Ciccotti is asked if he is constantly trying to balance the athlete’s desire to get back on the field with the importance of letting the patient’s injury fully heal?
He replies, “Whatever the sport is, whatever the level of competition—whether it’s Olympic or collegiate or even recreational—if an athlete is passionate about their sport, they want to get back as quickly as possible. We want to do that, too, but we want to do it as safely as possible.”
